Cydney Camp (b. 1994, Detroit) is a painter whose work explores Blackness and the surreal.

Her work begins with memories, dreams, found imagery, and original photography, embracing unpredictability and relinquishing control to allow images to emerge. Within these conditions, beauty, desire, joy, absurdity, femininity, and Black subjectivity are negotiated through an iterative process of revision, erasure, and accumulation.

Representational forms shift within abstract marks as painted bodies surface and recede within gardens, domestic spaces, and ambiguous terrains: emotional and psychological fields where interior and exterior collapse. Reducing forms to their essential mass, Cydney constructs paintings that hold tension between emergence and dissolution, recognition and disorientation.

Extending the Western canon to include Black interiority, her work repositions the figure within lineages that have historically excluded or objectified them.

Camp has exhibited across Michigan and New York, including Cranbrook Art Museum, M Contemporary Art, Norwest Gallery, Library Street Collective, and SPRING/BREAK Art Show NYC, among others. She lives and works in Detroit.
